The club "Adopt-A-Grandparent" was brought to the high school 3 years ago by Mia Christie and it is sponsored by our very own Mrs. Gummo. The activities the club does with the residents include games, making snacks, having parties, reading short stories, coloring with them, as well as playing memory games. The most rewarding part of this club is the residents and the kids interacting and learning from each other. The residents love spending time with the students and are very excited to be a part of their lives. The most challenging part is the preparation, because there is a lot of time and energy that goes into this program, and not enough time to get it all done. The time restraint is also another challenging part of Adopt-A-Grandparent because the kids just love spending time with the residents, and they can only visit for an hour and a half at a time. There are many lessons and memories to be shared and created from this club, the biggest is "Always treat others with respect, kindness, and patience because time moves so fast and before you know it, the residents could very well be us in the future."
Thanks Kyle for interviewing Mia and recognizing the efforts of all of our students who volunteer their time for such a great cause.
