Ally Wilson is an aspiring state police women, horse lover, and current student of California University of Pennsylvania. She graduated last year and had a plethora of wisdom to share with me about college life.
I first asked her to contemplate how it felt coming back to the high school. She said, “ It is bittersweet.” She explained to me that the reasoning behind this feeling was that she gets to see friends and peers that she graduated with but she is also faced with the grim reality that she will have to leave them again to return to the college experience after break is over. As a college bound student I find that information quite saddening yet hold on to the possibility that I will still get to see my friends even after College. Ally proclaims it is not all that saddening, while you lose old friends you gain new ones. So for all you concerned individuals out there, you will make new friends. She also stated that she enjoys giving advice to high school students. That statement in itself is a great testament to Ally Wilson's character.
I then asked her the question that intrigued me the most. What is your major?
She said that she is going for criminal justice and a concentration in forensic science. These majors are excellent choices for someone wants to pursue a career of a states police women. What is her reasoning for becoming a police officer you may ask, it is nothing more than the immaculate feeling that she gets from helping someone. This is yet another testament to her great character.
I also asked her the question that a lot of aspiring college students are contemplating everyday. Is college better than High School? She said, “Yes, there is more freedom.” She said that since she lives on campus everything is close and she can walk anywhere she needs to go. She also loves the freedom that you obtained with the college experience. Which is an concept that I am enamoured with myself. Mostly because I am a pretty sheltered child that wants to experience what life has to throw at me.
In conclusion, I asked her to give one piece of advice for the young adults that are planning on attending college. She said, ”Study a lot and manage your time, have some fun but don't forget about your classes.” This advice is highly applicable to college life more than ever due to stories breaking in the news about kids dying over hazing and partying. So I leave you with this, don't just read this interview but think about the message of not losing sight of what college is truly about. One of these days you will be the one going to college and being thrown into this crazy thing called life.
