Origin of St. Valentine
The story of St. Valentine is still a mystery to this day. There were three saints named Valentine or Valentinus recognized by the Catholic Church. One of the known Valentines was a priest in Rome during the third century. When marriages were outlawed, Valentine continued to perform marriages, that were kept secret. Once it was discovered that Valentine was performing marriage ceremonies, Emperor Claudius II, ordered Valentines death. Another suggested story, is that Valentine was helping Christians escape from Roman prisons, and then was sentenced to his death.
