The History of Groundhog Day

The first ever groundhog day was held on february 2nd, 1887, at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. According to the tradition, if the groundhog, now famously named Punxsutawney Phil, sees his own shadow, gets scared and then runs back into his burrow, it is predicted there will be 6 more weeks of winter. However if he does not see his own shadow, it is predicted that spring will come early. Tomorrow, February 2nd, 2018, we will find out whether Phil sees his shadow, and predicts 6 more weeks of winter, or if he doesn’t and predicts an early spring.
