On Wednesday, April 4th, I decided to see what was going on in Ms. Dues' art class. I wanted to learn some more on her art background and what's happening in the art program. I got to get a quick interview with our talented art teacher and this is what I learned!

What is your favorite part about teaching art classes?
My favorite part about teaching my art classes is watching my students more or less grow. I like watching them mature in their work and seeing their finished project being more than what they expected it to be.
When did you decide you wanted to be an art teacher?
Oh my. All the way back in 7th grade.
What are your students currently working on?
The majority of my classes are working with papier-mȃché. Some are doing imaginary undersea creatures and my honors art students picked a realistic bird and are turning it into papier-mȃché.
We heard about the African Social coming up. We were wondering what all is going to be there and how much it is to go?
The African Social is a cultural event where all the arts get to together to perform or present something for the community and young people at the school to learn more about the culture and arts. We have a variety of cultural food dishes and desserts. Some are Italian, Polish, and even Chinese. All the dishes and desserts are authentic. We will also have some American food because sometimes people get scared of the food that is there, but we do ask them to try one or two of the things there. Winter guard will also be performing there. We have the language clubs having a booth of either food or different art items to teach about the different cultures they are learning about. Home Ec is doing different foods and desserts for the social. A performance group is coming in from the Pittsburgh area. They are authentic Brazilian performers that will be doing the samba. Different, local vendors coming in that with different items that they sell and that demonstrate the arts. Jewelry and cultural items will be for sale. It is going to be super fun and it is only $5 to get in!
What advice would you give to an aspiring artist?
To pursue the dreams that they want to. Sometimes you think you dont think there is a field you like but sometimes you have to make a field for you to make a living. There are so many different arts that sometimes they don’t have something you particularly like. So you just have to make your own field. Always pursue your dreams.
