CAHS Hall of Fame: John Woodruff

John Woodruff graduated from Connellsville High School in the class 1935. Woodruff is famous for winning a gold Olympic medal in the 1936 Summer games held in Berlin, Germany. He was also awarded a special Oak tree sapling from Adolf Hitler for his achievement, which he decided to have planted at Falcon Stadium as a constant reminder that anyone from anywhere can do anything. He also once held the world record for the 800 meter run.
                      Woodruff attended the University of Pittsburgh and earned all American Honors in track during his time at the school. Served in WWII and the Korean War as a Lt. Colonel. He was awarded with a Bronze star for valor in the Korean war. Woodruff lived out his late life in Arizona where he eventually passed away.
